Vacation!!!

September 30, 2006 by Maren 9 Comments

So, we just got back from a vacation…the most FABULOUS, most relaxing, most enjoyable time ever. A few highlights and some “firsts” from the trip that I’d like to share… Randomness, but craziness…First, Michael caught a fish as you can see by the slideshow above. He didn’t do much thinking about where he’d place a fish after he made his catch…After quick thinking, he shoved it into HIS POCKET (with a zipper). He kept it wet by dipping himself in the freezing cold water. It was actually MY fleece jacket. Don’t know if I’ll ever be able to wear it again. Ewwwwwww…But, I enjoyed a huge laugh. Gotta love him!

Another “first” was to experience an elk pee in nature. Lovely. I’m sure she’d have rather me take a picture of something else, but she didn’t seem to mind too much. Personally, I think the park rangers secretly & strategically plant the wildlife so tourists like me can get some good snapshots of their trips to the Great Smoky Mountains.

Another “first” was to see a bear with her cub in nature. The bear climbed down the tree which was interesting to watch. Apparently the black bear enjoys relaxing up in trees. Another “plant” by the park rangers, I’m sure! LOL.

And lastly…You know how some people see sightings of the Virgin Mary in random things, such as french toast? Not me…I see pigs. On a road block barrel, the paint had chipped away to form a striking resemblance to an animal…whatta you think? 🙂

Weekend by numbers…

September 19, 2006 by Maren 6 Comments

1— item purchased this weekend at a festival—the item was ½ off, but the sales lady gave us a sob story about how she hadn’t even cleared $100.00.We paid her full price (it was only $5.00) She probably suckered us and EVERYONE ELSE and made millions.

2—times we had guests over. One for games and fun—We played Taboo and ate Heath Crunch cake (easy and delicious…mmmmmmmmm.) Another to watch the Notre Dame game.

3—days left until vacation.Still haven’t nailed down exactly where we’re going, but that’s just the type of vacation I need…Relaxing, and “do whatever.”

4—the number of little ones in my 2’s and 3’s class for our Grand Opening service. We had a visitor to our class–always a good day.

5—the amount of dollars spent in Edinburgh walking around the outlet mall.Reason for the lack of money spent:#1 I hate to shop.#2 Outlet mall prices are no better than sales at regular malls. You’re thinking, “Why did you go?”I met a friend there.

96—days to finish Christmas shopping

103—days until 2007

107—my score in bowling last night.I’m embarrassed to tell people I took bowling at college. One would never know. But, my goal was to break 100, and I made it!

***EDIT*** By the way, today is International Talk like a Pirate Day.  See here, if you don’t believe me…What are you waiting for, matey?  Get started talking like a pirate!  RRRRrrrrrrrrr….****

True Confessions from the wife of an Avid Buckeye Fan

September 11, 2006 by Maren 10 Comments

I do not bleed Scarlet and Gray by nature. Rather, I married into a long line of fans of the OSU Buckeyes. Now, here’s what I have to confess. Very competitive by nature, I love for the Buckeyes to win. But, it isn’t just for the sake of winning…it translates to harmony of the home, as well. You see…if the Buckeyes win, all is well.  HOWEVER, the wife of the avid fan DREADS the next game and the possibility of defeat. IF THEY LOSE…it’s a sad day in the Boehm household. I can’t stand for my husband to be disappointed in “his” Buckeyes. Grief enters the home and stays until the next win. Bottom line, I’m thankful for a good team and the win against Texas—important win. AND for any of you who watched it… How about those Herrington fans? Apparently, the QB of the Longhorns saved a man’s life. Now, they’re his biggest fan. They showed the man and his wife cheering for the qb 205 times—that’s a slight exaggeration, but not by much. I’m all for saving someone’s life, but to make them stars—a bit much. Okay, I’m off my Buckeye soapbox now.

In other news, Ross & Laura are on their way over to China right now!
