And the craziness continues…

February 5, 2007 by Maren 5 Comments

Recently, my life has been non-stop with “stuff.”  Good stuff, but crazy.  Last week, the only day that I sat down and relaxed was Saturday. By then, I’m so used to the busyness that I don’t like relaxing!  This week is equally as insane with stuff every night except Wednesday.  Thankfully, for me, there’s fun involved and I’m a sucker for fun!(For instance, tonight is sushi with Michael and a friend.)    Being busy is a good thing for me, so the busyness that I’m experiencing is positive…however, oddly enough, it just it doesn’t provide excitment in the realm of xanga posts.

Last evening, we went to a Super Bowl party and cheered the Colts on to a victory.  Having lived in Indianapolis for several years, you can’t help but root for them.  While Michael was a youth pastor, several of  the teens as well as several of my former students are fanatical Colts fans , so I couldn’t help but think of them as the Colts won last night.

Church plant wise, there has been some encouraging things recently.  God is so faithful to send encouragement at just the right time, and I’m so grateful to Him for that.  Thursday nights, we have a Bible Study at our house, and recently, I’ve been encouraged in our group–I love hanging out and “doing life” together, and it has been very good.  Church planting is a slow road, but as mentioned, God has been encouraging me recently through various ways. One of the books I’ve recently finished encouraged me to perservere!  The book reminded me of the verse “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”  He continues to be good!

I’m flexing a day towards the end of this month and going skiing at Paoli peaks.  I know it’s not the ideal skiing experience, but it’s close in distance, and will be a fun experience.  I think I may have some CEDARVILLE visitors who will be joining in the experience and making it EVEN MORE FUN and I’m a sucker for FUN.  ***hint *hint *hint…don’t back out on me now***

Okay, I’ve said enough.  Stop yawning, anyhow.

3-0?

January 16, 2007 by Maren 9 Comments

Life somehow manages to pass by at warp speed.  My brother, Ross, turns 3-0 this week!  There’s just something about the “thirty” number that makes you feel old.  I think it has to do with your perception of “OLD” as a kid.  I can remember playing with the neighbor kids, creating clubs and forts, jumping on the trampoline, annoying Ross (my childhood expertise), playing truth or dare, creating and selling neighborhood newsletters…where, oh, where does time go?  It’s during those times that 30 was ancient, finances were something our parents did with the checkbook, and eating anything you wanted never meant gaining a pound.  Now, and sooner than I ever thought, I’m on the brink.  Of course, I still have about a year and a half–but it’s coming…and my brother’s the first to get the ball rolling!  First my brother, then husband, then sister-in-law, then me.  And of course, being a previous math teacher, I always, then, have to do the math….multiply by 2…that’s 60.   multiply by 3…that’s 90….and multiply by 4…I’ll be dead!  I guess it’s a reminder to live life to the fullest and to live in such a way that my life brings glory to God.  It’s just a thought.

Because you always wondered…

Last night, at photography class, we were supposed to take examples of pics and bring them in.  This “goody-two-shoes” man had all these pictures of a house with different apetures and shutter speeds.  OF COURSE IT WASN’T MY HOUSE, but to be randomly funny, I asked him how he knew where I lived.  He DID NOT think it was funny.  Everyone else did.  He looked at me like, “You’re an idiot” and SAID, “That’s my house.”  JOKE, MISTER.  Insert laugh here… Oh well.  Some people need a humor shot.

Now for the educational part of this blog…. (taken from http://www.answerbag.com/q_view.php/17667)

“The original “Goody Two Shoes” wasn’t a hypocrite, although she definitely sounds a bit unbearable to modern ears. She made her debut in a children’s story called “The History of Little Goody Two-Shoes,” published by John Newbery in 1766. Goody was a poor child who only had one shoe. One day she somehow obtained a complete pair of shoes, whereupon she ran through the streets of her neighborhood, accosting passersby at random and announcing “Two shoes! Two shoes!” The author of this fable, incidentally, is said to have been the famed English playwright Oliver Goldsmith.

While today we would probably regard Goody as a hopeless wuss and routinely use “Goody Two Shoes” to mean someone who is suspiciously upright, it’s comforting to know that it took us almost 200 years to arrive at that conclusion, and that the first negative, cynical use of “Goody Two Shoes” in print dates back only to 1934.

Since you’ve always wondered…NOW your questions have been answered, and you can finally rest.  Pics from photography class coming soon.

Have a great weekend!  I’m off tomorrow for Veterans’ Day!  Yeehaw.  There truly are some nice things about my job, of which i need to be thankful!  Cheerio!

My Favorite Trick-or-Treaters!

November 1, 2006 by Maren 4 Comments

Here are pics of my favorite trick-or-treaters!  Thanks for stopping by! (Krista, I saved the best pic of your little ones for your site. 🙂 )

halloween3

Thomas the train!

halloween2

The cutest giraffe baby EVER!

halloween4

The princess and the monkey (aka…squirrel…aka bear. 🙂 )  Sounds like it should be a fairy tale!

Zippy got some plunder from the neighbor lady by accident.  Apparently she was giving out trick-or-treat bags to kid trick-or-treaters and DOG trick-or-treaters and mixed up the bags on the kids!  Zippy didn’t mind so much.  Good thing the kids didn’t tear into the “treats”…I guess that would be more of a “trick” in the Trick-or-treat!

Love those little ones!
