Mystery Qtip

March 19, 2008 by Maren 6 Comments

I have recently (November) got another piercing on my ear.  This morning, I was cleaning the piercing with a qtip dipped in the ear cleaning solution that comes with a piercing (along with all the paperwork that you have to sign your life away in the event that the ear or additional appendage falls off due to the piercing).  I dropped my qtip and here’s how it landed…

So I thought I should go buy a lottery ticket or something. Today was my lucky day!  I was amazed that it landed this way, until I decided to wet another one to see if it was a fluke or if I could replicate this amazing feat.  This is was what happened on the first attempt to recreate the javelin-style qtip throw after the coincidental vertical landing.

I’d now like to express that though psycho cat was impressed, now I’m depressed & my hopes have been oppressed and my irritation repressed…I digress.

Now go javelin-throw your qtips (C’mon, you know you want to…), and Happy Wednesday.

I am a sucker…

 ” I am a sucker”
sung to the tune of “I am a Dancer” by The Wiggles.

I am a sucker
I am a sucker
I enter contests so
I will win them
I will win them
But winning is my foe.

I think it’s my drive to win that makes me a sucker for any competition.  Over the past several years, I’ve tried out for all types of stuff– I’ve entered sweepstakes; a pickle naming contest; a recipe contest; I’ve tried out for reality and game shows: Survivor a few times, a Wheel of Fortune entry, Amazing Race 5ish times (I’m now boycotting the show to make their ratings drop because they didn’t pick me. HAHA.. I’ll show them…);  I’ve tried out for Marla’s ‘give-aways’ that are rigged by Jamie ; I’ve called Walgreen’s, Target, and Taco Bell’s survey contests, and many other door prizes and give aways.  Sigh.  I haven’t won.  Maybe one day, I’ll win.  Until then, I’m a sucker and a loser–hopefully, only this definition 1: a person or thing that loses especially consistently, NOT this one 2: a person who is incompetent or unable to succeed; also : something doomed to fail or disappoint.

And know what this is?  It’s my latest delivery confirmation showing that my Survivor tape made it ON TIME…

track

I’m excited that it got there on time…because not only am I a lover of competitions, BUT, I am also a cheapskate and a risk-taker.  I sent it priority on Tuesday for $4 instead of the guaranteed method for $16 with the hopes that it would get there on time (Thursday at 5:00 p.m.)–After all, if I don’t make it, I have to save save save…and trying out for 100 reality shows can get expensive (It FEELS like 100 anyway!).  Okay, so maybe I am a loser, but HEY, at least I’m one step closer to getting picked than YOU.  My motto?  If you don’t try you won’t win. One day, folks… One day…

So, about a month and a half ago, I bought a new pair of jeans–with a better security system than any of my other pairs.  Instead of the typical 2-step security method, button and zip, this pair takes a 3-step security approach:  Two buttons, and a zip.  Problem is that I can’t get the extra “step” ingrained in my head, and as a result I end up skipping the most important step and walking around all tarnation like a bozo with my pants unzipped.  Hey, at least I’m smiling as I look like a buffoon.

Anyone wanna give a shout out to automatic postal machines?  I went to the post office on Monday to mail a package and the line was 450 people line, out the door.  Maybe the number is slightly exaggerated–but it was backed out the door.  Even the automated machine had a line of 4 people.  I came back that night at 10, and was in and out of the Post Office in under 2 minutes!  Love it.  Also, is it me, or does it cost an enormous fee to mail the smallest packages?  It’s ridiculous anymore!  I just mailed something that weighs almost nothing, and had to spend most of my life savings (okay,$2–but when it weighs nothing, come on, people!)  Also, I tried mailing a cd recently, but was told that because it was rigid and was more “package-like” I had to spend a considerable amount more than just a few stamps.  Maybe the post ladies just like to see if they can get me to pay exorbitant prices because they think I will.  You just can’t “shop around” for a better deal like in real life–unless you take a package there yourself, there’s no way around the service….sigh.

Happy Wednesday!~maren

P is for Phamily, Phriends, Pilfer-ers, and Poorly Planned Blogs

On Wednesday, Griffin came down to an RV show in Louisville at the fairgrounds.  We planned to meet on Wednesday night after he arrived in town.  When he got to Louisville, he called me that he had arrived and I mapquested the closest Hampton Inn by the fairgrounds (bad assumption on my part).  So, we drove there.  Our conversation via phone went something like this:

Me: Griffin we’re here–We’re in the lobby waiting!
Griffin: Great, be right down. (hangs up.)
Phone Rings.
Me: Hello?
Griffin: Where are you?
Me: Right here in the lobby (looking around the lobby–it wasn’t a very big one at that.)
Griffin: (pause as he’s looking) Um, no you’re not.

Directions from the desk clerk and another 15 minute drive to the south side of Louisville brought us to the REAL Hampton Inn and we’re able to spend some time with my tremendous brother.  When we were going into that hotel, taped to the door was “no vacancy.”  Either the RV show is something that I’ve yet to find out about its bigness, or there was something else going on–of what? I’m not quite sure.

Thanksgiving was such a treat!  Michael and I Pricelined a ticket from Lexington, KY to Hartford, CT and got a great deal!  The destination was to visit a great friend from college!  We had such a blast–we left Monday and stayed until Friday!  It was fun to meet her youngest boy as I’d only met the oldest boy 2 years ago!  How fast they change!  Flying back on Friday was so easy–no painful layovers, no delays, no hassles!  I think it was so much better than having gone back on Saturday or Sunday!    Great friends!  Great food!  Great fun! (of course, I didn’t take any pictures of all of us–just the kids! 🙂

Twice while being married, Michael and I have had our credit card numbers used illegally!  Our credit card was canceled just yesterday for fraudulent activity on it.  Shame.  It’s not like I buy from shady sites on the internet…I buy from legitimate companies like Amazon, Ebay, Half.com (my personal favorite for books and such).  Guess thieves just like our numbers.  What I’d say to these people if I could catch ’em: “Work honorably for your money, jerk(s).”  Yikes…I still have more online stuff to buy for Christmas–they messed it all up :)!  What a hassle!  At least we can be grateful that these days, credit card companies are good about monitoring weird card activity and stopping the craziness before they’re out a ton of money–and thankful, the card holder isn’t the one liable!  Whew!
