So, I struck it rich…

December 11, 2006 by Maren 8 Comments

Thanks for all ya’ll who commented about the belt stool–I appreciated it!  The same day I went to the thrift store to get belts, I kept returning…multiple times.  The thrift store had all these OLD Fisher price toys.  So, I bought them all up to resell on ebay.  WHOOHOO.  If only I had the little people figurines, I could make some big bucks…Let’s take a walk down memory lane…Remember the old cash register with the red, yellow, and blue coins?  Remember the old plastic record players that play old nursery rhyme tunes?  Remember the old tv that scrolls through Jack and Jill?  Yep, got ’em all…and a couple other villages…let’s just say I struck it rich, though the cashier thought I was crazy, and made it known. LOL

This weekend, Michael and I went out on a date to the Bristol.  A lady from our church works there.  Any of you Louisvillians who have never been, should go.  Good restaurant.  I had the best black bean soup I’ve ever eaten along with grilled chicken tapas and veggies.  Don’t have much other news as far as interesting posts go… So, I’ll just leave you with a picture and sign off.

Have a happy week!

Because you always wondered…

November 9, 2006 by Maren 7 Comments

Last night, at photography class, we were supposed to take examples of pics and bring them in.  This “goody-two-shoes” man had all these pictures of a house with different apetures and shutter speeds.  OF COURSE IT WASN’T MY HOUSE, but to be randomly funny, I asked him how he knew where I lived.  He DID NOT think it was funny.  Everyone else did.  He looked at me like, “You’re an idiot” and SAID, “That’s my house.”  JOKE, MISTER.  Insert laugh here… Oh well.  Some people need a humor shot.

Now for the educational part of this blog…. (taken from http://www.answerbag.com/q_view.php/17667)

“The original “Goody Two Shoes” wasn’t a hypocrite, although she definitely sounds a bit unbearable to modern ears. She made her debut in a children’s story called “The History of Little Goody Two-Shoes,” published by John Newbery in 1766. Goody was a poor child who only had one shoe. One day she somehow obtained a complete pair of shoes, whereupon she ran through the streets of her neighborhood, accosting passersby at random and announcing “Two shoes! Two shoes!” The author of this fable, incidentally, is said to have been the famed English playwright Oliver Goldsmith.

While today we would probably regard Goody as a hopeless wuss and routinely use “Goody Two Shoes” to mean someone who is suspiciously upright, it’s comforting to know that it took us almost 200 years to arrive at that conclusion, and that the first negative, cynical use of “Goody Two Shoes” in print dates back only to 1934.

Since you’ve always wondered…NOW your questions have been answered, and you can finally rest.  Pics from photography class coming soon.

Have a great weekend!  I’m off tomorrow for Veterans’ Day!  Yeehaw.  There truly are some nice things about my job, of which i need to be thankful!  Cheerio!

Hmmmmm…

I haven’t posted anything in a while… AND that about sums up life.  One thing I will say, though–  It’s incredibly amazing how stinkin’ fast and easy it is to spend an hour’s worth of pay…It takes an hour to earn it and about 2 minutes to spend it!  Just a frustrating “food for thought.”  Cheerio!

Vacation!!!

September 30, 2006 by Maren 9 Comments

So, we just got back from a vacation…the most FABULOUS, most relaxing, most enjoyable time ever. A few highlights and some “firsts” from the trip that I’d like to share… Randomness, but craziness…First, Michael caught a fish as you can see by the slideshow above. He didn’t do much thinking about where he’d place a fish after he made his catch…After quick thinking, he shoved it into HIS POCKET (with a zipper). He kept it wet by dipping himself in the freezing cold water. It was actually MY fleece jacket. Don’t know if I’ll ever be able to wear it again. Ewwwwwww…But, I enjoyed a huge laugh. Gotta love him!

Another “first” was to experience an elk pee in nature. Lovely. I’m sure she’d have rather me take a picture of something else, but she didn’t seem to mind too much. Personally, I think the park rangers secretly & strategically plant the wildlife so tourists like me can get some good snapshots of their trips to the Great Smoky Mountains.

Another “first” was to see a bear with her cub in nature. The bear climbed down the tree which was interesting to watch. Apparently the black bear enjoys relaxing up in trees. Another “plant” by the park rangers, I’m sure! LOL.

And lastly…You know how some people see sightings of the Virgin Mary in random things, such as french toast? Not me…I see pigs. On a road block barrel, the paint had chipped away to form a striking resemblance to an animal…whatta you think? 🙂
