Weekend by numbers…

September 19, 2006 by Maren 6 Comments

1— item purchased this weekend at a festival—the item was ½ off, but the sales lady gave us a sob story about how she hadn’t even cleared $100.00.We paid her full price (it was only $5.00) She probably suckered us and EVERYONE ELSE and made millions.

2—times we had guests over. One for games and fun—We played Taboo and ate Heath Crunch cake (easy and delicious…mmmmmmmmm.) Another to watch the Notre Dame game.

3—days left until vacation.Still haven’t nailed down exactly where we’re going, but that’s just the type of vacation I need…Relaxing, and “do whatever.”

4—the number of little ones in my 2’s and 3’s class for our Grand Opening service. We had a visitor to our class–always a good day.

5—the amount of dollars spent in Edinburgh walking around the outlet mall.Reason for the lack of money spent:#1 I hate to shop.#2 Outlet mall prices are no better than sales at regular malls. You’re thinking, “Why did you go?”I met a friend there.

96—days to finish Christmas shopping

103—days until 2007

107—my score in bowling last night.I’m embarrassed to tell people I took bowling at college. One would never know. But, my goal was to break 100, and I made it!

***EDIT*** By the way, today is International Talk like a Pirate Day.  See here, if you don’t believe me…What are you waiting for, matey?  Get started talking like a pirate!  RRRRrrrrrrrrr….****

True Confessions from the wife of an Avid Buckeye Fan

September 11, 2006 by Maren 10 Comments

I do not bleed Scarlet and Gray by nature. Rather, I married into a long line of fans of the OSU Buckeyes. Now, here’s what I have to confess. Very competitive by nature, I love for the Buckeyes to win. But, it isn’t just for the sake of winning…it translates to harmony of the home, as well. You see…if the Buckeyes win, all is well.  HOWEVER, the wife of the avid fan DREADS the next game and the possibility of defeat. IF THEY LOSE…it’s a sad day in the Boehm household. I can’t stand for my husband to be disappointed in “his” Buckeyes. Grief enters the home and stays until the next win. Bottom line, I’m thankful for a good team and the win against Texas—important win. AND for any of you who watched it… How about those Herrington fans? Apparently, the QB of the Longhorns saved a man’s life. Now, they’re his biggest fan. They showed the man and his wife cheering for the qb 205 times—that’s a slight exaggeration, but not by much. I’m all for saving someone’s life, but to make them stars—a bit much. Okay, I’m off my Buckeye soapbox now.

In other news, Ross & Laura are on their way over to China right now!

That’s just wrong…

Why anyone would ENJOY the dental profession is beyond me (no offense, Krista…btw I tried to call you after my visit…).  I went to the dentist this morning because I thought I had 1,339,089 cavities in my mouth.  Turns out I had one cavity and a hole in one of my teeth.  At least it was GOOD news, considering my preconceived fears.  I was glad it was only ONE.  So I’m lying in the chair, he pulls out first a needle, then something similar to a SLEDGE HAMMER, then something akin to a honkin’ drill and goes to town in my mouth, all the while the dental assistant continually shoves the huge water-sucker—two sizes of them–in the back of my throat.  Teeth sawdust is flying everywhere.  That’s just wrong.  At one point, my mouth started trembling from having it open so long!  40 minutes and 322 tools later, I’m all fixed…(btw…he complimentary (yeah, right) adjusted my bite. i.e. more teeth dust everywhere)  I’m currently back at work, talking with a lisp, my teeth are becoming aware to the pain of the previously mentioned “preventative measures,” and I have to think…people enjoy this?!?!?!

Sorry…no pics to post of my dental visit. lol.   Gotta wipe up the pool of drool off my keyboard….  Wasn’t this a lovely blog…

Dragging my heels kicking and screaming…

I’ve always hated the idea of a blog because I feel personally that I don’t have  a whole lot to say that others would find interesting…should I blog about the fact that I returned a dvd to Blockbuster this week without the disc?…or should I blog about locking myself out of the house as Michael drove away with not only the keys to my car, but also the keys to my LOCKED house? Hmmm…Life generally isn’t filled with a ton of exciting news….Of course, there is always the church plant…the best, hardest, greatest, most challenging, most rewarding thing we’ve ever done.  But, I don’t want everyone to yawn when they read my blogs…   You see, I don’t have kids to blog about fun comments they say or cute things they do…Too many stories or pics of my dog and cat (Michael told the vet on Saturday the reason for Zip’s terrible teeth were due to Zippy’s smoking problem.  The vet wasn’t amused.ha! ) would put me in the crazy category…

too many of me would seem narcissistic…

The one thing I love about other’s blogs are pictures.  So, I figure I’ll add some pictures of random things.  I still don’t think my life constitutes “interesting” enough for blogs.  But, some pictures will suffice.  Here’s to randomness…

Tonight, I made Bobo drinks for my friend.  Bobo drinks are smoothies with black pearl tapioca balls in them.  You drink them with a thick straw and slurp them up with the drink.  If you ever go to Chicago, go to Joy Yee’s noodle Shop in China Town.  They serve them there, as well as the BEST asian noodles/ food you’ll ever eat!  Anyway, this picture is the tapioca pearls after they’ve been cooked, ready to be placed in smoothies.  To see them in a drink, go here.

And here’s some recent pics of my recently painted bathroom.  It’s pink.  Not my idea of a “classy bathroom”  BUT we have to leave it that way for the time being due to $ costs/budgeting.  So, we painted it brown.  Let’s just say, I had inspiration.  LOL.

So, stick around.  I’ll get the hang of this blog thing.  I’ll put some fun pics on here.  Maybe not with too much blogging, because I don’t feel I’m as interesting as others, but pictures…my personal favorite!

Aren’t you just riveted?  Now you know why I shouldn’t blog…
