January 26, 2008 by Maren 1 Comment

Here are three of my favorite(st) kids in the universe…  Their mom isn’t feeling well this weekend…SO head on over to her blog and wish her a speedy recovery!

Love these kids…

This was supposed to be a “mean face” pose.

And last but not least…ever have those voicemails that you just can’t bring yourself to delete?  Here are my two favorite that I’ve saved since August and November.  Again, from some of my favoritest little people in the world!

I am a sucker…

January 26, 2008 by Maren 6 Comments

 ” I am a sucker”
sung to the tune of “I am a Dancer” by The Wiggles.

I am a sucker
I am a sucker
I enter contests so
I will win them
I will win them
But winning is my foe.

I think it’s my drive to win that makes me a sucker for any competition.  Over the past several years, I’ve tried out for all types of stuff– I’ve entered sweepstakes; a pickle naming contest; a recipe contest; I’ve tried out for reality and game shows: Survivor a few times, a Wheel of Fortune entry, Amazing Race 5ish times (I’m now boycotting the show to make their ratings drop because they didn’t pick me. HAHA.. I’ll show them…);  I’ve tried out for Marla’s ‘give-aways’ that are rigged by Jamie ; I’ve called Walgreen’s, Target, and Taco Bell’s survey contests, and many other door prizes and give aways.  Sigh.  I haven’t won.  Maybe one day, I’ll win.  Until then, I’m a sucker and a loser–hopefully, only this definition 1: a person or thing that loses especially consistently, NOT this one 2: a person who is incompetent or unable to succeed; also : something doomed to fail or disappoint.

And know what this is?  It’s my latest delivery confirmation showing that my Survivor tape made it ON TIME…

I’m excited that it got there on time…because not only am I a lover of competitions, BUT, I am also a cheapskate and a risk-taker.  I sent it priority on Tuesday for $4 instead of the guaranteed method for $16 with the hopes that it would get there on time (Thursday at 5:00 p.m.)–After all, if I don’t make it, I have to save save save…and trying out for 100 reality shows can get expensive (It FEELS like 100 anyway!).  Okay, so maybe I am a loser, but HEY, at least I’m one step closer to getting picked than YOU.  My motto?  If you don’t try you won’t win. One day, folks… One day…

Crafts, Curtains, and Quilts

January 24, 2008 by Maren 7 Comments

Recently, I had to fill out a form that included my ‘hobbies’.  I listed dabbling as one, because, though I am no expert at anything, I enjoy trying many things.  Here’s what I’ve been up to the last few months re: craft stuff…

In November, I made a quilt for my niece.  (Enlisting the help from my friends with quilting talent, Cloud & Kristie).  The printed fabric was from Michael’s grandma’s scraps–I was able to get some of her fabric when she passed away.

At Thanksgiving, I borrowed my friend’s Corda-roy’s Bean Bag for the pattern, and enlisted another friend, Gretchen, for the help in making the cover.  This month, I found a nice, clean, futon mattress for a good price and Michael and I cut up all the foam inside to make the stuffing for the bed of the corda-roy.  At first, we started out cutting the foam by hand–BAD IDEA–it took like 8 hours to cut up a piece 2’x3′–I wish that was an exaggeration (my thumb still hurts 3 weeks later).  I did a little bit of google research and found out that you can cut it easily with an electric bread knife… After a quick trip to a thrift store and a purchase of a new(to me) knife, it made all the difference in the world.

Michael and I also took a field trip to a local fabric store to a fabric store in Shelbyville, KY that is major coolio. They’ve even gotten a write up in Southern Living… I find them pricey (but then I’m the biggest cheapskate around ) but a fun store and a huge selection…. I found a fabric I really liked for my kitchen curtains.  The hardware was from IKEA.  It made the sewing part of it super easy.

So, that’s the past couple of months through my projects!  Happy Thursday!

I’m the proud big sister!

This semester, my sister is interning at the Washington Times!  WHOOHOO!  She got her first assignment to interview some people at the March for Life yesterday, then helped out with an article about it and was mentioned as contributing to the report (at the end of the article)!  YEAH STERLING!!!!    Can you tell I’m proud of my sister?
