A Welcome Back Gift

May 15, 2008 by Maren 7 Comments

Everyone appreciates a gift from a loved one, do they not?  The consideration that goes behind a gift makes the recipient’s heart flutter with twitterpation, knowing that someone does indeed love them.  That’s why I was pleasantly surprised at the gift I received upon my return to Indianapolis last weekend.  It was a gift from someone who must have missed me greatly, Officer 412.

My husband usually does the driving, but we drove into downtown Indianapolis in two different cars.  I parked and fed the meter (thanks to the generosity of Laura because I only had a nickel and penny in my possession).  We met my dad at the food market downtown where I ate a Cubano sandwich–quite possibly the best sandwich I have ever eaten.  While I was completely enjoying this 100% of pure tastiness, mouth-watering love-of-my-life-with-the-exception-of-Michael sandwich & unbeknownst to me, Officer 412 was standing beside my car penalizing me for enjoying my sandwich to such a great degree.

With a smirk on his face, and the meter not yet needing to be restocked with quarters, he gave me the gift below.  Please examine it closely and see the REASON for which he decided it was needed.

I would like to make an effort to say that there of plenty of SUVs, Hummers, Vans, Jeeps, & Gargantuan Vehicles that are FAR bigger than my little car that stick out WAY further than mine does even if you take into consideration the distance I was from the curb.  This information, however, was insignificant to the officer 4.1.2. who had a smirk on his face as Michael approached the meter shortly I had been gifted.  ‘Bless-his-heart’ Michael was returning to the car to make sure we were okay on our meter time.  Apparently FourTwelve had just given us the ticket because he was still standing close to our car issuing another gift to another ‘too far from curb’ individual.  Michael asked, “Do you give out a lot of these tickets for this violation?”  412 replied, ‘Listen sir, if the car is more than 12 inches from the curb, then they’re in violation.”  End of conversation.

I think Officer 412 needs a gift to let him know that someone appreciates him.  Apparently he hasn’t received one in a LONG time.  But believe me, it will NOT be from me.  I’ve already given him $20 as a thank you for the gift that he gave me.

My Family, Hip Hip Hooray!

May 13, 2008 by Maren 5 Comments

Probably 4 out of 5 people in America would claim that their family is the best.  I, however, have proof, which only 8 out of the rest of America can effectually validate.

Regardless of how random we are called to act, my family knows how to have a good time.

 Dive, Laura, Dive!

We were all together this weekend.  Thanks to the SURPRISE of ROSS & LAURA, the SURPRISE of STERLING, and the ingeniousness/generosity of GRIFFIN in helping Sterling complete the biggest surprise in Meyers’ history.

When we’re together, life is wonderful.  Laura instigated a walk.  Maren, the walking fog horn, rounded the troops.   The troops participated willingly (or with a smile, at least…) & Mom, the spontaneous one, called the photo shots.

There were about 2 seconds to get in position before mom snapped the next picture.

And sometimes that wasn’t much time…

And that my friends, is why I love my family.  Because we are anything but normal. The proof is in the picture…and you can thank me for not exposing the wedgy I was receiving and the wad of pink striped underwear that Michael had in hand.

I appreciate my ‘special’ family.  And now, you’ll have to agree, that you’ve seen the proof of the best family.  Now only 1 in 5 Americans will claim their family is the best, because from the pictures, they’ve clearly been outdone.

Walking Challenge? Who wants to join?

May 12, 2008 by Maren 4 Comments

Hey friends!  Wanna join me?

YOU ARE INVITED to a FREE, FUN Challenge that will help you acheive your exercise goals!  I participated in this last year and can say from experience that it helped keep me accountable in reaching mine!

Why don’t you consider teaming up with me? The WOMAN Challenge is a virtual exercise challenge that lets group members collectively reach their exercise goals.  This year, my team name is named VICTORY and I’d love it if you would join!  If you are interested, you can register here http://www.womenshealth.gov/woman/register.cfm and let me know.  The challenge runs from May 11(yesterday), and ends on July 5, 2007!  SO sign up and let’s get going!

The challenge is rather simple.  #1 Set Weekly Exercise Goals (Goals do NOT have to be outlandish, they could be as simple as 10 minutes of walking per day.) #2 Complete Your Goals. #3 Record Your Goals.  (As long as you meet your goal 5 out of 7 days and do at least some activity 5 out of 7 days, our team will succeed!)

Our virtual route will be walking accross the Gulf & Caribbean!  Though we don’t actually walk the same miles that the route actually takes, the challenge monitors the completion of our goals and is a fun way for us to track our efforts and to see our progress.   Each week, when you complete your personal goals, it affects the group goal.

If you DO join, please make sure you’re willing to do your best to finish our group goal (the challenge is set up in such a way that doesn’t allow much wiggle room for slackers!)  We ARE a day behind, so between now and next Saturday, you will have to play catch up and exercise at least 5 of the next 6 days.  If you’d like to, start small and set your goals so you can achieve them.

Looking forward to walking together!
