Until my Luck becomes Lucky…

April 27, 2010 by Maren 4 Comments

My Bucket list isn’t very long. At this stage, it’s not even on paper. But one thing that’s certainly on the top of my unwritten ‘list’ is to be on a game show. I’m determined to keep trying until my luck becomes lucky.

To follow this (ridiculous) dream, I fill out all sorts of applications. If it requires a partner, I convince the closest (as in proximity) friend into applying with me. I do random things like go to the Post Office at 3 in the morning to mail my (Survivor) application packets to ensure on-time delivery. I harass my sister and mother into editing my applications. Poor family…they have to endure my insanity. I drag my husband all over tarnation to help me accomplish this goal. Poor Michael…he gets the brunt of all my silly dreams.

Saturday was no exception. My family woke up in decent time and traveled two hours north to track down the WHEELMOBILE (Wheel of Fortune’s audition bus). Sadly, Saturday was not my lucky day. But one day, it will be!

The line was hundreds of people long. But once you get in the actual audition show, everyone has the same chances of winning because it’s a random drawing to pick the speed round contestants/applicants. Sadly, I did not get picked. Though I was definitely disappointed, people watching was definitely at its prime! Talking to strangers definitely proved to be a invaluable education. I now am more knowledgeable than ever about gambling, grumbling, photography, Sketcher’s Shape-Ups, dreadlocks, lottery winners, and the techniques of annoying others.

I went to take pictures with my camera, and had forgotten the camera card! So, my backup camera phone pictures will have to do!

A special thanks to my husband for allowing me to keep chasing after my goofy dreams! Hat’s off to my cheering section, seen here:

Easiest Peanut Butter Fudge

April 22, 2010 by Maren 9 Comments

I take no responsibility for the creation of this recipe, just the responsibility of eating it. 🙂 Michael and I recently went to a cookout. I slaved away and brought a homemade berry pie. My friend worked about 10 minutes and brought this. Throughout the evening, my husband literally hovered over the table scarfing down this delectable fudge. Then, he proceeded to talk about it for days. Never mind my berry pie. ha! So last week to contend for the “BEST WIFE” award, I decided that since he talked about the fudge for days after eating it, I’d go ahead and make him some. The ingredients are all pretty common to any kitchen, which makes any recipe a winner in my book.

Now, I don’t claim to be PW. I’m not as fancy; I got my KitchenAid second hand; I don’t have crazy natural light in my kitchen; my ingredients are all generic; and my cookware is not on par with her Le’-Crusuet-whatever (read: I’m not rich. haha). But one thing that I do like about PW’s recipes is that the pictures make me think, “I could do that.” So that’s why I figured I’d do this fudge in pictures. Here the rundown of making this fudge. It’s super easy.

fudge1

Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.

Stir in brown sugar and milk.

Bring to a boil and boil for 2 minutes, stirring frequently.

Remove from heat. Stir in peanut butter.

and vanilla.

Place confectioners’ sugar in large mixing bowl and pour sauce over it.

Beat until smooth; pour into an 8×8 inch dish. (At this point I called my friend who had originally made this because the stuff doesn’t POUR. It’s more like a Dump and Pat operation. She confirmed.)

fudge1_12

Chill until firm and cut into squares.

Confession Time: My fudge wasn’t as good as my friend’s. I have an inkling that because I was so busy taking pictures of the process, I didn’t measure out my powdered sugar as well as I should. That, and I may or may have boiled it too long. It came out harder than my friend’s fudge, but my husband still ate it. It’s good stuff!  But don’t take my word for it, take the 993 people who gave it great ratings at allrecipes.com  Let me know if you try it!

Click here for the link to the recipe from Allrecipes.com (as well as for a picture of the FINAL product the fudge cut into squares.  Whoops.  Forgot that important picture…Another reason I’m no PW.)
