To Be a Kid Again

February 17, 2010 by Maren 16 Comments

During last week’s snow-a-thon, I was inspired to have a little fun.  To the front yard, we lugged an unused snowman kit, Pierson, and his Exersaucer.  We set to work.

We quickly realized that this snow wasn’t packing snow. So, we did what most people would do:  We made a sun-bathing snowman.

Next on the agenda was a snow angel–If you’re wondering about my fashion sense as demonstrated in the next two pictures, perhaps I’ll start a fashion blog.  I’m well aware that my middle name is ‘fashionista’–I just don’t know that I’m ready to share all my shopping tips.  I’d hate for all my snazzy outfits to be stolen off the racks before I could claim them! (Then I’d have to revert back to ebay for all my fashion needs. See story here)  *Please note: The above paragraph is most definitely tongue in cheek.  Trusting me for fashion sense would be hazardous to your health.

P.S. If you haven’t tried Paula Deen’s Snow Ice Cream, Drop everything and go now! Tastes just like homemade ice cream.  This winter, I experienced my first taste.  Suffice it to say,  I’ve made it multiple times.  Oink & Sigh.

The Biggest Small

February 11, 2010 by Maren 4 Comments

I asked Michael to take lots of pictures for me as I conferencized last weekend. Let’s just say that he CLEARLY went over and above the call of duty.   From the pictures, I’m wondering just who had more fun!

First, they met characters from “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure.” Seriously, there was a National Tea Party Convention happening simultaneously.  The look on Pierson’s face makes me giggle every time I look at this picture.

My dear husband does something that I find annoyingly endearing.  At an ice cream store, Michael will challenge the scooper with something like, “I’m interested in a ‘small’ scoop of ice cream.  HOWEVER, I want to challenge you to impress me with your ability to scoop the BIGGEST ‘small’ you’ve ever scooped.”  Nine times out of ten, he comes away with a bigger ‘small‘ scoop than my large scoop.  This picture is an example of the Haagan-Daas lady not only answering Michael’s challenge, but conquering it!  Michael attests that his portion was DOUBLE the previous customer’s portion (and they had both ordered the same size!)  It really does work.

They had their shoes…errr…socks shined.

They read the Wall Street Journal.

Or Maybe It was a “Reader’s DIGEST” (teeheehee)

blog8

They visited tropical waterfalls.

Pierson snoozed.

And they relaxed by a fire.

Now, do you see why I wonder?

Reality Check

February 5, 2010 by Maren 8 Comments

We are having a blast this weekend in Nashville at the Opryland Hotel.  There’s something about staying in an upscale hotel that just makes one feel… well, rich.  I love crawling into a bed with sheets that you don’t have to wash, towels that can be chucked on the floor, and any place where a messy room is permissible.  It’s fun being able to splurge every now and then and enjoy some of the finer things in life.

Today and tomorrow, I’m enjoying learning at a conference for blogging.  Though I’m nobody in the blogging world and fully recognize how measly I compare with other bloggers here, it sure has been fun and a great learning opportunity.  I tell people I’ve met that I’m just a podunk blogger–just little ole’ me in this giant blog world.  While I’ve been listening to speakers like this guy, musicians like this guy and Food Network hosts like this guy,

I could sure get used to this luxurious life. But then, I come back to dinner in the hotel room and I’m reminded of our reality!

Even when we’re living large, we still try to find ways to cut corners.  We’re living on less today, so tomorrow there will be more!!! And that truly is just the way I love it!

***Huge thanks and props to Michael for making it all possible!***

The Blessing of Little Things

May 27, 2008 by Maren 15 Comments

Michael and I spent time yesterday on a hike in a nearby forest.  We stopped along our trail to enjoy a few of the smaller things in life.  We had a great hike!
