Humbled…
I’ve always enjoyed a game of Ultimate Frisbee. It’s the one sport in life that I could play all day and never get tired of playing–well maybe physically tired, but not emotionally. So, I decided albeit majorly out-of-shape, that I would join a league this summer. Last night was my second night to play for the league. These people have seemingly played since they were two, and I appear to be the wayward ant in the colony. Everyone seems to know where to run on offense, where to run to catch the fancy throws, which receiver they should pass to, and ALL of the fancy frisbee lingo, BUT… THEN THERE IS MAREN— running around the field aimlessly, giving my defender every reason to laugh. A couple times last night I found myself wanting to cry ( I know, I’m slightly too competitive)– I felt that desparate! I kept trying remember that this was JUST a game, but I found the opposing team so intense, that a cry would have been easily justified–they were RUTHLESS. It didn’t help either that there were only 2 girls to show on my team, and we had to play 2 girls for a majority of both games–At this point in my little blog, don’t forget, I’m way too out-of-shape. After my short feel-like-a-good-cry-fest, I toughened up a bit, got back into the game, and put on my most severe game face. This didn’t help my confusion nor did it help in knowing where to be on the field, but did make it better knowing that I would NOT let myself quit. Before I know it, I’ll catch on to their fancy-dancy passes, organized plays and crazy defensive moves. I won’t give up. AND, you can rest assured that next season, when there is a ‘wayward ant’ who finds herself in my current position, I’ll be helping her–even if I’m defending the poor soul. Sigh.
Happy Thursday.
Just call me Heloise
I preface this by saying that any time I find out something new, I quickly find out that the rest of the world has known for years! No worries–that won’t stop me from posting this little helpful hint. Somewhere out there SOMEONE will want to refer to me as Heloise from hereafter!
Few things in life annoy me to the point that I can’t take it any longer–I’m generally pretty easygoing, and laid back. One thing however, drives me crazy after it goes unfixed–perhaps more appropriately I should say, “It grates on my nerves.” It’s the noise that is made when you pull the shower curtain back–metal on metal… You see, I have decorative metal hooks and over time, they wear on the metal shower rod, making it hard to pull and creating an annoying shrill sound.
I’ve got something that fixes this little annoyance (as well as metal hangers on metal clothes racks), and today, I thought, “I REALLY SHOULD XANGA THAT.” ( I know…too much time on my hands, I agree.) So, wad up sheet of wax paper, and rub it along the metal shower rod. No longer will you have this irritating issue. This is one of the perks from my employment at Ann Taylor Loft several years ago… Go try it…you’ll appreciate the results. AND the next time you hear that noise, you have two choices: now you can either go fix the problem, or you can think, “Maren hates that…” every time pull back the curtain and experience that annoying shrill noise. The choice, my friend, is yours.
Okay… hit me with the, “Duh, Maren, I learned that when I was 2, comments.” I’m armed and ready. 🙂
HAPPY LONG MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, FOLKS!
It’s kind of like “Two Truths and a Lie”…
So for today, I’ve joined the bullet bandwagon. The only thing is that amongst the 10 bullets, I’ve added 3 lies. Can you figure out which is which? It may be too challenging for some of you…
- We’ve been working on our landscaping–isn’t it amazing when it comes to owning a home how fast everything adds up, and how expensive little dinky- home improvement trinkets are?
- Michael and I are saving as much money as we can to pay off our house– One way we’ve found to save money, is to bring our own bread to fast-food drive-thrus, we only order condiments and then make condiment sandwiches. This drastically cuts on costs!
- This past weekend Michael and I drove up to Indianapolis where he competed in a regional speech contest. He came in SECOND and did a FABULOSO job! The guy who won had a style completely different than Michael’s, so it was obvious that the judges preferred the winner’s style over Michael’s. I know I’m biased, of course, but he did a GREAT JOB (deserving of first) and I’m so proud of him!
- Another way we’ve discovered to cut corners is to siphon our neighbors gas at night–cuts down on the rising gas costs considerably–and all-in-all averages our gas prices out to only $1 a gallon!
- I just took mail up to the mail room for work–yep, I ran all 66 letters through the meter for $.39. Got a call from a couple ladies who noticed my mistake– SO I had to go back up, run $.02 meter stickers, and place them on the envelopes in addition to the already LARGE postage mark. The size of the postage mark now takes up about half of the envelope. Hopefully the people who receive the mail will just attribute it to the ditz in the mail room. OOPS.
- To save more money for the next year we’ve decided to go to the bathroom elsewhere because tp is so expensive these days…
- Tonight, we’re having a cookout at our place to celebrate a couple from church’s upcoming wedding! Whoohoo! Then, tomorrow night, Michael and I are doing something to celebrate 6 years of marriage! He keeps dropping me clues that I have to figure out, but has not revealed where we’re going for sure– I do have a hunch because I begged him to go to see OKLAHOMA. This is the last weekend the show runs, so hopefully my hunch will be accurate!
- There’s still 2 more spots in the walking challenge if you want to join! You just have to do 2 things–it’s pretty easy–set a weekly goal for yourself and complete it, and do a little something every day! It’s great accountability to be moving! If you want to join, you’re still invited!
One more day until weekend!
OBVIOUSLY, the ‘cutting cost’ statements are not for real. However, we are always looking to cut costs and pay down our house aggressively…Wouldn’t Dave Ramsey would be proud??? … I’ve been recently thinking of some not-so-serious ways to do so, and thought I’d share the just-for-fun-but-I’d-really-never-do-it-ideas. 🙂
