A walk in the woods

June 25, 2007 by Maren 11 Comments

Michael and I took a walk on Sunday afternoon at a Forest in our area.  BEAUTIFUL!  It’s so fun to stop and enjoy the peaceful creation– Michael could testify, though, that nothing quite interrupts this serenity like my intermittant hysterical screams of being chased by horseflies.  (There are some creatures in this world that we must agree to disagree about their purpose in life, and horseflies are one of these types of creatures.)  These pictures remind me of the last verse of Psalm (150:6) that says, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.”

GRRRR… I can’t figure out how to lay out pictures on Xanga and make it look nice.  Whenever I try, it looks like a jumbled mess, so I have to go to the slideshow or spend way too much time.  Any ideas? And is there any way to preview a post before posting?  I always hit “save changes” then realize I’ve posted the thing… GRRR…

Also, on a different and random note, on Saturday, someone/something completely dug up a newly planted flower and placed it on our sidewalk (about 2 feet from where it was originally planted).  It’s baffling to me and a little unnerving.  I keep racking my brain trying to figure it all out… I don’t think a kid would be smart enough to do something like that.  If it’s a joke, it’s a dumb joke.  If it’s a window peeper, why on earth would he want us to know he’s there?? I was thinking that maybe I ran over someone’s flowers or something without knowing it, and it was retaliation.  But you’d think I would know if I had done something like that… I’m just hoping it was an animal of sorts.  It’s just too odd for me to think about…

Happy Monday!

What to say?

June 22, 2007 by Maren 5 Comments

Earlier this week, I had problems getting on Xanga to blog.  It was then that I had to something to say.  Now, all my words have left, and alas there is nothing.  I’ll leave you with a joke though, and will return when I am more word-y.  Why does a milking stool only have three legs?   Because the cow’s got the utter!  Now to anyone reading this who still has a straight face, YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO LAUGH…

If Only I’d started with Zippy Earlier…

Humbled…

June 7, 2007 by Maren 9 Comments

I’ve always enjoyed a game of Ultimate Frisbee.  It’s the one sport in life that I could play all day and never get tired of playing–well maybe physically tired, but not emotionally.  So, I decided albeit majorly out-of-shape, that I would join a league this summer.  Last night was my second night to play for the league.  These people have seemingly played since they were two, and I appear to be the wayward ant in the colony.  Everyone seems to know where to run on offense, where to run to catch the fancy throws, which receiver they should pass to, and ALL of the fancy frisbee lingo, BUT… THEN THERE IS MAREN— running around the field aimlessly, giving my defender every reason to laugh.  A couple times last night I found myself wanting to cry ( I know, I’m slightly too competitive)– I felt that desparate!  I kept trying remember that this was JUST a game, but I found the opposing team so intense, that  a cry would have been easily justified–they were RUTHLESS.  It didn’t help either that there were only 2 girls to show on my team, and we had to play 2 girls for a majority of both games–At this point in my little blog, don’t forget, I’m way too out-of-shape.  After my short feel-like-a-good-cry-fest, I toughened up a bit, got back into the game, and put on my most severe game face.  This didn’t help my confusion nor did it help in knowing where to be on the field, but did make it better knowing that I would NOT let myself quit.  Before I know it, I’ll catch on to their fancy-dancy passes, organized plays and crazy defensive moves.  I won’t give up.  AND, you can rest assured that next season, when there is a ‘wayward ant’ who finds herself in my current position, I’ll be helping her–even if I’m defending the poor soul. Sigh.

Happy Thursday.
